Well...here comes the "i told you so opportunity "

Well disaster has struck. I unwrapped the bass drum and it has the most beautiful "normal " clean grain.

Looks like a completely different drum.

Safe to say the 12" was wrapped because imperfections and grain pattern. I.e. near impossible to match.

I put 3 coats of stain on bass drum and its turning out a totally different color!

So now i see these as my only options

1. Remove 3 coats of poly from 12" ...a monumental task..sand off finish a bit and use dark walnut or ebony stain.
Do that with all drums. Clear coat to shiny gloss.

2. Rewrap drums

Im feeling really bummed and overwhelmed

Im only slightly bummed $250. Ill keep snare to sell to student.

Pro probably get toms and bass wrapped...or 1st choice ebony stain with nice gloss

Or F... it and just have slightly different grain on 12"

I mean bill stewart played 12/14 natural with cherry 18 for years and it didn't bother me a bit!

So you sold your Tony Williams Old K to Peter, sold your Getsch RB to Paul, and now you're fixing up a $250 Premier kit.
