In the 80's, I think the Black Shadows may have had more lacquer finishes. Bandit might have some insight into this.
All I know about are my Black Shadow's. They were a special stained/lacquered finish that looked purple in certain lighting.

My later 70s Resonators were Natural Wood finish. Just a gloss lacquer over wood.

Does anyone know how premier applied the finishes on these? It looks like a thick paint, but when I touch some parts of the outer ply, I can feel it popping up and down, like a wrap that’s coming unglued.
They were wrapped in most cases. Premier didn't glue the wrap to the entire shell so that could explain what you are feeling.
