About 25 years ago I gave away a couple of RK engraved tom hoops, the old style that used claw hooks on the rods. There wasn't much interest in them at the time.

He’s counting on a rich dude who only wants real RK hoops on his RK with new replacements, and he’ll wait them out. This guy and the For Your Drumset guy are notorious for overpricing.
Can’t stand the For Your Drumset Guy. That douche is always clogging up all the listings by not listing correctly. Buyers have to wade thru his listings when all we want to do is search listings for complete kits, not add-ons.

Drum stripping makes no sense to me unless the drum is really shot. A vintage 1920's snare might be worth $2000 in parts rather than $400 as a drum, but it could also take 10-15 years to sell all the parts.............AND you ruined a great drum.

Fee’s Taxes and shipping have added to the uptick in cost. It’s gone from bargain basement to full retail

"For Your Drumset guy". That's hilarious. I've been seeing his listings for years. Apparently the guy's infamous!

I really don't too upset when someone does this.

It's his drum. He can do whatever he wants with it.

Regarding his price selection.....again it's his stuff. He can charge whatever he wants. I won't be buying from him, but good on him if someone does.

I've been around long enough to remember when all y'all complained incessantly about Cherie Willoughby's prices. Then Ned Ingberman's prices. Then HazelShould. The price complaining will never cease here.

I occasionally see these outrageous prices on EBay and I think that the chutzpah of these sellers is astounding, but then I think its costing them nothing and if they do sell at their posted price they are making bank! Here's to hoping its an exception and not a trend!

At a loss for words on this one.
Can anyone explain the trend that warrants this asking price?
This is for 2 hoops.

What if Matt purchased them for $400. What then? Why are you trying to trash someone when we don’t have all the facts. Unless a new law has been made, he can charge whatever he likes.

I used to be HEAVILY into vintage ROGERS back in the day, had a huge collection (over 100 Rogers drums), wrote a few articles in NSMD about them.

Went thru big life change (death of alcoholic wife), sold ALL vintage drums.

I never looked back. My Pearl Sensitone snare, my DW Design snare are just fine for me.

Here is my latest cheap-o. Steel import Ludwig... With refinished interior, new top rim, wires and heads plus careful tuning, it sounds GREAT. Cost $100.

I am glad to leave this kind of nonsense ($400 vintage rims) behind me.

I think many of us appreciate the “greater than the sum of the parts” factor involved in, say, a 100 year old snare drum. A drum that’s been handled and played and loved and gigged and managed to stay intact and usable for a century. Until it runs into one of these parts gougers. Dismantling a little piece of drum history to squeeze the extra few bucks out of it, as if instruments are no more than nuts and bolts. But they are more than that. I’d sooner lose money and see a drum end up with someone who cares for it. Parts? I’d gladly give you a part if you need it and I don’t. It would never occur to me to gouge you for it. Karma is a thing.

I love to see something old get back into rotation and fulfill its intended purpose, it puts a smile on my face. The Japanese concept of tsukumogami is that a tool that’s been used for a hundred years acquires a spirit… and that sounds about right to me. Vintage drums come with a custodianship, they’re yours to take care of until they belong elsewhere.

There are a handful of these sellers, most of us know who they are and don’t bother to give them a glance.

Of course he can charge what he likes. And we can criticize his choice to price gouge and to dismantle working instruments in order to extract every possible nickel out of what used to be a drum. Just because you CAN do a thing doesn’t mean you should. We are talking about sellers who have a history of doing this, who do it exclusively in fact. We all know the names, and they’ve been using this ‘business model’ for a good long time. Some of us think it’s not cool, and say as much.

Can’t argue that last sentence. I seriously doubt he paid $400 or anywhere close to that, though. And it’s not trashing anyone if it’s true, and he and that For Your Drumset guy are very high priced, just no question about that.

What'd Gerry at Hazelshould do?
I've never had anything but good experiences with him.
