I just got a backordered classic fit coated ambassador for a rewrapped Leedy field drum from the late 50s. The old head was so tight, I had to take it off with a hammer. The new one spun freely on the shell and tuned up perfectly. These seem to be the real deal.

I wonder if there’s a downside. Are the flesh hoops less sturdy? Less glue? More chance of warping? I only wish they’d make more of their products in that configuration.

I’ve had a set on my Gretsch RB since they came out. No issues, still sound great.

They are amazing on my Slingerlands. Noticed a huge difference from modern heads. Fit super easy

I tried one on my 12" RB tom and it did not sit right on the bearing edge. I ended up using an Evans 360, which fit much better.

In my experience, Evans heads do sit flatter, due to their steeper collar. They still have the same problem with oversized shells and thicker wraps, though, as regular remos.
