I have an 18” coated “bass drum” head. Is this basically just like a tom ambassador head? It doesn’t say ambassador or anything like that. Anyways, I might put it on an 18” floor tom.

the collar ring/ rim may be wider (or shaped different) than a tom head would be
may still work

Agree-had that issue when mounting an 18" Emperor
onto an 18" Stagestar bass drum. It would fit but not quite right. On Yamaha Stage Custom floor tom it fit perfectly.

Put an Aquarian SK1 on the Stagestar and was good to go.

Aha...gotcha. Yeah, it probably is designed a bit different. I think I’ll just get a proper tom head and save this as a spare for the 18” bass later on.

what is it- bass drum heads assume a wide wood hoop whereas a tom head assumes its going to fit into the thinner channel of the metal ..hoop.
So while a tom head will work on a bass the reverse might not.

If the channel fits wear it ; )
oops wait; forgot about the collar differences.
Just grab another shirt!

I don't think any head I've put on either of my 18's ever actually said "bass drum" on them (now I'll have to look!).
I had heard that bigger collar thing in the past, but I once got a tom head when I ordered something for my 18" LCM bass and used it anyway....no problems, but it did seem to tension a bit quicker.
