Removing French polish / shellac finish?

Greetings all-
What would be best way to remove a French polish type finish on a shell? Looks like some type shellac… would paint stripper be best way to go?

Would removing the French polish be similar to removing a lacquer finish?

If the finish is a true shellac then Denatured Alcohol (ethanol) is the best and simplest way to remove or restore the finish. It dissolves the shellac and is also the carrier solvent for liquid shellac.
