Isn't going through Reverb just a safer option as both buyer or seller. I don't like the fees or taxes either but as a seller, it's just so much easier to have a 3rd party buffer for this type of stuff and I've filtered out scam buyers much better. Shipping is easy too. I won't touch Craigslist with a 10 foot clown pole now either, had so many sketchy replies.

Same guy tried to sell me a cymbal I was looking for in Wanted. I passed after checking his profile. He didn't have any transactions and had little history.

Hello I think I got ripped off by a member. Ive never had a problem before but I’m thinking I got taken. Ive been looking for a Rogers 16x16 blue sparkle floor tom. It’s in the wanted section. Got a message from a forum member named mooncymbal
Said 350.00 delivered to my door. i PayPal’d the 350.00 f/F as requested. Now pushing a couple of weeks No drum, no info etc. not sure what I can or can’t do. I’m being ghosted and now am assuming I’ve been ripped off.
Please advise on how to proceed.
Thank You
We have said it before but I understand not all see.....NEVER, EVER SEND FRIENDS AND FAMILY.
Honestly even if you know the person, a service is being used for a sale, its not a gift, and that service costs money.....it should be paid. you have no recourse with paypal, maybe with a credit card.

Re:F&F - I never send nor would I ever ask for F&F payments. Nobody is protected using that option. For genuine friends and family it is OK. Using it to bypass fees on the receiving end or sending money to a stranger leaves both parties exposed.

yes, it's been said many many times, and it's in the rules, etc...wondering if maybe the mods would consider adding a sticky to the Wanted and For Sale sections, with a title something along the lines of: NEVER, EVER SEND FRIENDS AND FAMILY!! (or something else very obvious that hopefully more people would see)...unfortunate that something like that may be necessary to drive the point across, but sadly seems like it is

Tough lesson for sure. Sorry it happened and good luck with the credit card chargeback.

If you used a credit card, you have recourse and protection through the CC company. PayPal won't lift a finger. In the future, just pay the fee yourself and add it to the price and still send it via PayPal, but fully protected. You have a big headache over about $11 dollars...it isn't worth it.

Tell your card provider you were scammed and they may provide protection? PayPal will not do much since you used friends and family. I’m sorry this happened to you. I hate a thief most of all. Lazy and entitled to the point they feel that whatever you have worked for should be theirs for nothing. Scum, scum, scummy lowlife’s that liars and thieves are.

Is there any way the mods can see the IP address of @mooncymbal and ban the IP address?

These people shouldnt exist and be alive...same with those from foreign countries scamming elderly people on the phone in the US. Although a hacked profile could be a total way to make it seem legit, dont buy from a new profile, as in, someone who hasnt been here for YEARS and made many legitimate posts. I woudnt think there are many legitimate NEW members here to sell anything as most people sell on reverb, ebay, or Facebook marketplace...just the old crowd here will sell to members. It really is a buyer beware world, and one must use a lot of good judgement before sending anyone money that you have no coverage for.

Yes and no. We can see IPs and ban the account, and we can see when another account has the same IP. But most hackers are using software to get around that now.

Sorry to hear this,.Did he provide pictures of the drum?

Unfortunately, these scammers often do come up with pictures. I had a guy try to sell me a bass drum on Facebook with pictures two days ago. He only outed himself when he was hesitant to send specific pictures, then the picture he sent me of the spurs were not attached to a drum and old and rusty — supposedly for this brand new Ludwig drum.

I’ve been getting more and more scam messages on Facebook especially lately. But here on the forum, we ask you all to take precautions and DON’T agree to fee free payments, especially with people you don’t know personally. I recommend asking for specific pictures that would be very hard to fake, possibly even with an identifier like a personal message in a note as part of the photo. If someone isn’t willing to prove they have the item, shut them down and REPORT REPORT REPORT.
