Robert Plant and Alison Krauss Hasten the Death of "Rock and Roll"

Yikes, this is even worse than when Phil Collins ruined the Live Aid Led Zeppelin reunion.

Never liked the post-Zep Robert Plant, but the violins, the train beat and the somnambulating performance is an absolute desecration. Disrespectful to Bonham, actually.

With all due respect, I can't say I agree. I understand that we love the original versions of things, especially when our heroes are playing them in their heyday. But I wouldn't call Jay Bellerose and his playing disrespectful to Bonham. He's an incredible drummer with a great feel and sound. Both of which are working for this new context. This isn't supposed to be Zeppelin-esque. The groove is actually closer to its Earl Palmer roots that Bonham got his take from. It is a different take on the tune. I love pretty much everything Bonham did, but it's apples and oranges here.

Especially as I get older, I always try to let my childhood music heroes evolve into whatever place they're in. Sometimes I really don't like where it goes. Sometimes it's great. This band keeps Plant active and in the game, and I have to respect that. It's something that fulfills him, so I say good on them.

Being a Solo Artist is just that , it gives him the freedom and expression he didn’t have as a comprehensive unit with 3 other band mates . It’s great , it has that surf vibe going .

Has anyone seen recent Bon Jovi, Crue/VNeil or Whitesnake shows in person or on youtube?

They can no longer belt out the songs as they were recorded when their voices were young, but still try.

New versions are in order to keep the party going.

I think it’s great. Robert has simply moved on from Zep and it’s very cool to see him performing those songs in any capacity and with a new twist to it, and I’m a massive Bonham fan.

Robert and Jason Bonham stayed at the hotel that I was working at last year and we spoke about music quite often in the mornings while they were getting their morning coffee. Robert seems to be very happy with what he and Allison are doing and in my opinion, self-satisfaction is the most important part of being a musician. Jason was nothing but supportive, and I also got the opportunity to speak to Robert about Zep a few times which was a big treat since he has largely moved past it.

If you want to listen to the original versions on record, please do, but understand that artists don’t make music solely to please fans.

IMO some of Plants best work has been with Alison.
Nothing wrong with this version, he is having a blast delivering it and the crowd is receiving it quite well!

I really admire Plant for not just milking his Zep legacy. All the stuff he's done with Krause is fantastic.
