Rogers Holiday?

I picked up a Rogers Top Hat kit this past weekend (thanks, @KCDrumDad) and I thought I had a surprise second set included in the Anvil bass drum case…. Turns out it’s odds and ends. But two “ends” within appear to be Rogers. Honestly I’m a Rogers novice, so opinions/educated guesses would be appreciated. This is the 14” shell. Looks like there was an attempt made to strip the silver spkl wrap. Interior has been painted twice and possibly subjected to flame. Paper tag is obscured. I’ve sanded a bit but quit when it appeared the reddish letters underneath were fading.

Thoughts??

Yup it got caught near a fire . Looks like the wrap saved the shell . Take your time with a heat gun and putty knife and it might just start springing back to life . Maybe try Greased Lightening Degreaser in a small area inside and see if it removes the smoke inhalation .

There’s a 20”’bass drum that is similar. I had other things to do and didn’t fiddle with that yet.
It almost looks as if someone applied stripper and then attempted to roast the wrap off…. The shell is sound and round, surprisingly. I have a box of hardware and need to sift through that to see if lugs might be there.

If the shells / maple stayed intact eventually hitting them with 120 and then 220 grit with a orbital sander you might just have 2 gems on you’re hands . I’m really curious to see if they can get to that point for sure . As far as Rodgers go I have zero knowledge but there are many here who I’m sure will jump in .

It is always the surprise extras that make a purchase interesting. For forum members- I did not do that to these shells. I merely saw the top hat kit available near @thebeebe5 and pointed it out to him. I did not have to nudge hard for him to be interested.

Definitely Beavertail lug footprints.
Looks to be a Covington era 3 ply shell based on the little I can see of the edge.

I'd love to see that Top Hat you speak of

Tag on the 14” definitely says “Holiday”.

I’ll snap the Top Hat at some point.
These are the pictures posted by the estate sale.

Holiday is the shell model
Covington Ohio is where it was built.
Good to know.

The paper tags in the Top Hat shells all say “Yorktown” which is crossed out with “Holiday” typed above. Each is initialed as well. Was that common?

Quite common. Rogers assemblers would use other tags when the Holiday ones were unavailable. I even have a drum with ' Holidqy' typed in. Fat fingers apparently.

Looks like the person was using it as a concert FT . Top lugs we’re covering the wrap but the fire blanketed the bottom lug holes and wrap which appear to look like the lugs and hoop were off when it happened . Where the wrap is still in tack will probably come right off with applied heat gun . Won’t be able to tell how the melted wrap interacted with the shell till you loosen up the burnt section at the seam . Go real easy till you’re confident that the wrap won’t pull the outer ply with it .

Yes common
If you tell me the initials I can tell you who assembled your drums and maybe a little bit about them.

I invited myself over to see the opening of the Kitchen-aid box that Jim got with these drums. There was no knowing if it was old cookware or drums stuff or just a box of junk. Fortunately, it was almost completely full of drum things, mainly Rogers hardware, stands, and some pieces missing from the blue set. Some miscellaneous stuff from other manufacturers and some non-drum items, but you just never know what you will get. Excited for Jim.
