The drum I'm interested in is '5ply with re-rings' with the inner 'zola' grey coat (looks like Tama's 'zola') and a script badge.
What years would that be and what kind of wood? maple+birch?
I'm thinking early 70's but when did this coating start?

Rogers drums had a gray coat inside throughout the 60s into the 70s, but in '67 I believe is when the look went from flat gray to speckled gray (I assume that's what you mean by "zola"), after the move to Dayton.

thank you, yes 'speckled' is a more accurate term of the coating.
I wonder why 5 ply needed a re-ring, when that was typically used for 3 ply drums.
Its an orphan drum but I like collecting those as long as they sound good.

My Rogers 20/12/16 purchased in 1966 had the textured (speckled) Zolatone gray interiors with Swivo hardware. And the script badge + the "Dayton" label ......

I think "Zolatone" was actually a name used for this finish in other contexts, if not a trademark .....
