Has anyone had an issue with the KD-140 (the kick pad from the TD-30 kit) missing beats? My kit was bought NOS in boxes and played now for about four months, and since day 1 it will not trigger the kick sound about once every 250-300 strikes.

I'm using a good double pedal, and I notice mainly the right side beater is the one that will miss. That could just be the odds since it gets way more play, but I think not. The heads and foam are perfect on the kick pad as well as the snare/tom pads, like new.

I remember reading in the manual that looser head tension works better. Could it be that mine is too tight on the head?

I'm using the DW felt side of the composite beater head. I have not gone to the straight plastic side but could do if you all have seen better results from your experiences.

Advice or Thoughts?

Have you tried the bass pad sensitivity settings?
It's probably not ideal to use a double pedal, but I find any random missed trigger is usually down to the wrong pad settings.

This is not exactly addressing your question but be careful of using felt beaters on mesh heads. They can wear through them quickly. It's best to either use a patch on the head or switch to a non-felt beater.

I appreciate the advice, and I'll change over to a flat disc plastic beater face. The DW pedal I'm using has interchangeable faces on the beater surface. In addition to the advice above on the Settings, this may make a difference. Thank you -

Yes, both of these steps are helping. No missed triggers in today's session. Thanks both of you -
