I thought I was good with a 6-8-10-12-14-16 set....
First time on YouTube?I understand it's good marketing, but it's getting slightly annoying for me the Zzounds, Weiss and others just keep sending this guy kits that he uses once and then doesn't send back.
He'll make a video later and be like "I have 35 kits. I haven't played 95% of these free drums since I recorded one video for them".
I put almost zero value in his opinion on things he has/says in the videos since he's just getting free stuff and then sits on most of it. It's obligation to make a video because someone sent him stuff...
I feel like Mike Dawson at Modern Drummer at least sent stuff back after doing reviews.
At the end of the day, it doesn't effect me enough to seriously care, but seeing a guy hock $1,000's of dollars of stuff he's getting for free seems far from what the channel used to be.

How does what someone else paid (or didn't pay) for a product affect your usage of it at all?I get it.
He has some stuff that's kinda maybe useful sometimes but a Youtuber that gets free stuff from vendors because it's good exposure isn't practical for a regular schmuck like me.
It's like living in a world of drum porn. I don't, he does. How does what someone else paid (or didn't pay) for a product affect your usage of it at all?
It's either useful or it isn't. If it's useful, it's either worth the cost to you, or it isn't.
It's like living in a world of drum porn. I don't, he does.
If you don't get that I'm not sure where to go from here.
If I had a virtually unlimited supply of vendors sending me stuff because I'm a popular Youtuber I could do some really cool stuff too. This guy is great, don't get me wrong but for me, from a practical standpoint he doesn't always connect with me. I'm guessing that was the point of the dude I responded to.I guess not. I have no idea what point you're trying to make. Drum porn? Huh?
I agree because I haves funs and loves drums too!I like his channel. I enjoy his videos. If he gets paid to set up and play drums you should be happy for the guy. People like him because he has fun and loves drums. Haves fun and love drums... Have fun and love drums? Idk guys but that is exactly why I got into drums and music in the first place.
The point of the video is something fun for us to watch and for him to get views. I think you're reading into it way too much.My thing is just some of the post come off as "reviews" which are biased as all can be when they are getting all the stuff for free. The whole "you don't appreciate things that you didn't pay for" very well may be true in these instances.
He used to do $30 dollar drum set hacks or whatever. Now it's "I don't like the tension rods on my free $4,000 drum set that I'm not going to play after this 7 minute video".
Give it to someone else who will appreciate the things if you don't like them. Or send it back to the vendor.
Sweetwater gives this guy stuff trying to sell it as the everyman, but most drummers don't have 20+ drum sets they haven't played in 6 months.
He's gotten a ton better as a drummer over the years and props to him there.
Someone a while back posted his reviews are a bit moot because he's running everything through $10k of free sound gear from Sweetwater to do the same tuning across 35 drum sets. I don't think it's that far off...
I don't really know the point of this video. He doesn't really review the drums or change tunings. He chops tubes down because they couldn't be made into bass drums or snare drums easily. Which, they were never meant to.
His buddy plays the drums half the time, and then he spends 15 seconds at the end telling the viewers how to buy them.
I can't be the only one thinking this is weird. How that's worth the tradeoff when music stores are struggling in general is beyond me.
The Thomas Lang video really sells the Roto Toms 10x more in a video where he talks about 7 and 9 stroke rolls.
You're probably right. Playing was sloppier than Joe and it didn't really go anywhere for a 13 minute slog. The point of the video is something fun for us to watch and for him to get views. I think you're reading into it way too much.
