Finished my project of converting my Rototoms (6-8-10-12-14-16) to L-arms.
Used a set of 3/8" - 16 knobs w/ a 3" stud from McMaster Carr (https://www.mcmaster.com/6079K25/) to replace the mounting rod, then got a set of "TIMs" (drumfactorydirect's version of RIMs) mounts with 12.7mm clamps on them.
Works perfectly! I can mount the toms much easier now, and I still can get single-point tuning simply by turning the knob under the drum.
FWIW, the 10" rototom design is a little bit different -- for that drum, I needed a longer bolt. The 3" was the longest available, so I added a coupler (https://www.mcmaster.com/91034A110/) and some additional threaded rod (https://www.mcmaster.com/3314N12/). Liberal use of Red Loctite and we're good to go!
