After reading the thread about using some type of nut or not for your cymbals. This got me to thinking about securing your cymbals from theft. At times I play at a neighborhood bar and setting next to the front door. It would be so easy for someone to walk buy, especially if your on break, to just pickup a cymbal and walk out. And being it's mostly at night they could be out of sight in an instant. For that reason I would suggest using some type of locking device for your cymbals.

Although a floor tom would cause more attention but it could also be a target. Might be a good idea to just loop a long keychain from a tom leg around a stand or bass drum T lug. I haven't been in a situation like this but it could happen.

Anyone here had any problems like this OR do you do anything to secure your instrument(s)??

Most of the time on break, one or more of us is in the same room so it's not an issue that I worry about. Played a large event recently where we were set up on a big stage and we had a couple hours to burn between setup and start. We did spend some time in the green room they provided, out of sight of the stage. On the rare occasions this happens I do think of that but it doesn't come up enough that it's a big concern to me. I'm as careful as I can be, locking car in between loading out trips and such, but I can't obsess about every possibility.

Nothing like that but we do keep an eye on all the equipment at the end of the night , nothing is left unattended especially outside near the vehicles.
Very easy for someone to swipe a drum/cymbal /guitar bag

Jp,had a local frontman and a sax player that left their car running in the alley, real cold that night, and they were loading gear into it.
They went for more gear, came back, car with the gear was gone! They took it,car and all! Not too bright!
I always keep my eye on gear. We always made sure some band mate was with the gear when we loaded out.

In 1972 my band was booked to back up a pop/R&B singer at a club in Lompoc, CA (we played the first set of original music without her and played as her backing band the rest of the night). The first night went off without a hitch, but when we arrived at the club on the second night one of my 18" Zildjian crash cymbals was missing*. The bartender explained that the club was open for business and they couldn't guarantee the safety of our gear. We packed up and left that night without playing.

*Our gear was on a complete stage setup located well away from any entrances — we reckoned it was an inside job. (It took 50 years for me to find another A Zildjian Thin Crash with all the same characteristics as the one that was stolen.)
