The drums were purchased used from Drum City in Hollywood around 1973, the hardware and cymbals were accumulated over the next year or so. this photo was taken in 2008 when I sold them.
I bought my first professional kit from Drum City in 1972, which was a Rogers Celebrity. I loved Drum City. I didn't even realize it was around the corner from Pro Drum Shop!

In 1975 answered an ad in paper. Found myself on a Bikers front porch. He didn't let me in. Just brought the drums out. Was a bit nervous saw "Red" and said "I'll take them".
Still have em to this day right now .

He day-glowed orange the inners.
Was in no position to discuss it. ; ) 180$ with brass snare
20/12/14 rb BIG LUG 14 (and should of kept the Yellow satin flame instead)
Way it goes. I had the Ludwig tom mount installed 1976 in Boston thinking someday I might find a second small tom.
Happened never..

Ever see the Baltimore Drum Kit I owned around 1998-2000? Bass was factory converted floor tom. By Baltimore Drum Co. by the owner. He never recut bass drum edges on it and it never sounded right high and thin. Beautiful drums tho.

Craiglisted them after about a year and a half.

My very first kit was this custom made, hand laid fiberglass set made sometime the 60's in Little Rock Arkansas. This was originally my cousins kit and I first remember falling in love and playing on it around 7 or 8 years old. Then came that faithful Christmas in 1970 when my cousin received a new Slingerland set (a 50N in sparkling silver and full hardware just like the ’70 catalog) and my Mom bought me his kit! You all know that 10 year old me was just as thrilled with this set as he was with his!

I have no photos of the drums in their original configuration, but it was obviously the same set less the converted tom made from the kit snare. I bought the Ludwig Acrolite around the summer of 1971 from a kid on my street, I THINK I paid $40 complete with the case and stand. So I added to my toms by converting the matching snare. This kit served my dreams of rock stardom well until the day I picked up of copy of the 1977 TAMA catalog... and that started a whole different direction! It's a long story but I still have this set though the only drum I ever restored to playable condition is the snare.

There is not one photo of my first kit or of me playing my first kit, even though I had it for several years. I guess my parents just didn't love me (or my playing) that much back then (they love me more now that I'm in my 40s and have been out of the house for a very long time).

I would've taken photos of my first kit, but I was in elementary school at the time and I didn't own a camera.
