I am rebuilding an old Fibes fiberglass snare drum using an Indie strainer and conventional rims.
What snare wires would you recommend?

Thanks.

There’s almost no wrong answer, apart from broken or twisted wires. Just a matter of personal taste.

If it was me, I’d start with the 24 strand Fat Cat with the adjustable center section. Very versatile.

Carbon steel wires tend to sound "nicer", but I found with my little 13x3 Ludwig that MORE wires REALLY improved the sound.
Those drums normally come with 12 strand wires. I swapped it with the 20 strand snare from a Tama snare drum and it made the Ludwig sound a lot better to my ears.
More wires give a smoother snare sound and can dry out the snare drum a little, too.
