I use a backpack for mine and it works fine. In the 2nd compartment I bring a 35 foot RCA stereo cord with phono adapters to plug into the PA. I also bring one PD-7 pad in the same pack. It’s not gorilla proof, but I am the person carrying it, so it works for me.

I have The Kontroller from Mono:
http://monocreators.com/the-kontroller/

It's not cheap but its an amazing bag. I bought it after having a different soft-case from another manufacturer completely fall apart on me after just one quick fly-out date. The Kontroller is well padded, comfortable, water resistant, and fits not just my SPD-SX but a laptop, cables, sticks, and my other carry-on stuff.
Can't recommend it more highly. I don't think there is anything else out there as well made with as much functionality.

An update for anyone interested! I wound up with this bag here: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SKBUB1515. It seems pretty well made so far. It fits the SPD plus the mounting bracket and it has a nice padded pocket in the front with space for a trigger, footpedal, and some cables. It's over-sized for the SPD, so I'll likely add some foam padding inside just to make things a bit more snug and make sure the mount isn't pushing too hard against the fabric.

That looks nice. If its anything like Protection Racket's other goods it will be very durable.

Hey guys, hope you're good and don't mind me stepping in with a blatant plug but we have a couple of new products you may well be interested in. I hope I'm not breaching etiquette by posting this...

We have just release super durable clear polycarbonate Decksaver covers for both the SPD-SX and SPD-30 Octapad.

Check them out here - https://www.decksaver.com/covers?keywords=spd
