Here's another Zildjian 20 (1950's) I just ran across on Reverb today where a smaller cymbal was stacked on top for decades, preserving a bright original surface.

The K Con 13/11 inch essentially NOS later 1930's thin pair shown below might have been stacked on top of each other as well. The bright center of the 13" measures approx 10" diameter.
And the 22 inch early 60's "dark" sounding A (2328 gm) shows a brightly centered reverse where a 14" cymbal likely resided for many years (has a 13.5" bright center).
Last one is a thin 22 Paiste Ludwig 3 star late 50's with an 18 inch lighter center. This one probably toned for a couple decades before the18" was placed on top for another couple decades.

I'm keeping track of these as I run across them.

This 20 inch earlier 60's Zildjian just popped up on Reverb this morning.

Looks like some sort of small cup or mini cup?

Fascinating dendrochronology discovery. We discussed these some time back and I was curious about how long this pattern takes to form. I think that was probably because I have such limited storage area in my room. I can't imagine people living with such a luxury of storage space that they can afford to have unused cymbals lying flat around the place. Maybe that's also because I've got too many cymbals. ;-)

There's no such thing.

I don't see a lot of difference stacking cymbals on top of each other or side by side ......it's the same volume. And you can stack them tightly side by side as well and preserve
bright surfaces. The ones on top and bottom will tone deeper. I would imagine some of the cymbals I posted above could have been flat inside a trap case or bass drum case along
with another smaller cymbal on top. I don't really have to figure out how they got that way.....just as long as part of the process was re-lathing a portion of them. If that did occur
it should show up under 5X to 15X magnification as one surface transitions into the next one (bright to darker). On an orig cymbal there should be no difference in the lathing/flow lines
and hammering as you cross the boundary........just a change in patina.

Here's a group of "70's" cymbals where the 20" definitely had a smaller cymbal sitting on it for years. Maybe that 18" that's next to it?
And the hats might have been stacked on the 18". Though if that were the case, why are the hats so brilliant on all sides?

This just up on Reverb from Maxwells NY City. Even the reverse still shows a very bright but smaller center vs. the top side. 1970's stamp. They mention hi hats were sitting on the top
of this cymbal. And what I think is that mentioned pair of hi hats is linked below.

https://reverb.com/item/65014567-zildjian-16-avedis-crash-cymbal-1960s-934g

A 16" A. Zildjian crash from the 1960s. Weight is a thin 934 grams. A fast and moderately dry crash that speaks best at medium power. Years of storage under a pair of hi-hats has given this cymbal a unique ring of heavy patina around the edge.

Listed at the same time as that 16 were a pair of New Beat 60's stamp hi hats (848/1238) with early inking and New Beat sticker shadow. Very dark top seems to match the outer ring on this 16. There's also an
18 inch just listed with some bold top ring toning as well....though not quite as bold as the 16.
