I have a friend with a long international jazz drumming resume. He told me he does not dig "boutique" snare drums. He loves the Great Gretsch Sound. He has and can get various endorsements. He likes the matching wood snares that come with his Gretsch kits. " all in the same family" like Billy Higgjns used to say.

This is all subjective stuff. If your high end gear makes you happy and you have the means to acquire it, and fill your home and studio and warehouse with it, that is great. I wish you joy and many hours of fun and happiness.
If I hear you gig on an off the rack kit tonight, I will perceive your strengths and weaknesses and level of musicianship. As you will if you see me play. Tomorrow night, put us each on the costly high end kits. My view? We will still be and sound and play like the same dough heads as last night. If your roll sucks, it will suck on both the acrolite AND the Dave Weckl Signaure snare drums with the 13 strainers. If you swing mildly on your Gretsch Catalinas, you will still sound like a no swingin mofo tonight on your Mapex Maple Syrup Aeonological Festivus tubs . Or you freaking solid shell sunken timber drums that were made from doozinga, tropical Tahitian Tutti Frutti wooden furniture recovered from the freakin Titanic.

You would be better off spending your $20,000 bucks worth of GAS gear, by instead moving to NYC for 10 months and studying with Kenny Washington and John Riley on your vintage Ludwig Downbeat kit with the supraphonic with 20" and 18" old Zildjians and some 14" new beats.

Happy Festivus, everybody!

In my case, I would sound better 6 months from now if I were to spend the time studying with, say, John Riley, that if I were to buy an 8 thousand dollar Sonor kit.

Suddenly I'm interested in a researched, cost-analysis of 6 months of weekly lessons, studying under John Riley.

Just for comparison purposes :book:

My $800 Fibes kit laughs ……..
Yeah, I got a 4 piece Ludwig just like Ringo for $25 and managed to find a matching Tom for $25. Making it a 5 piece. Can't beat that deal.
I played it with my band for two years then I sold it to my best friend for $50 I got it for.
He was very happy.

Hope you're playing these kits a lot this weekend, Doc!!!!

Can you please tell me - do the hexagonal Mapex SonicClear mounts fit properly on a hexagonal Sonor SQ1 or SQ2 tom RIMS system?

Thank you!!

I had surgery on my right foot and the doctor made it worse and that was a few months ago and a couple of days ago I stood up and took a step and dislocated my ankle on the same foot.
I've literally been in bed or the recliner for at least 4 months so my foot and ankle can heal.. My foot swelled up like a ravioli with toes and man did it hurt.

Not to speak for our esteemed Doc but yes, they do. I'm currently using one on my SQ2 single rack tom set up. The part # is TH800.

Hey buddy. Praying for you. Talk to the surgeon. Let him or her know what happened and see if they can rectify it. There are many treatments available , after the fact , that can help you. See if they have any recommendations.

In the meantime, make something good out of the bad! Work on your rudiments on a pad, there’s always a blessing inside a curse, one just has to look for it.

Can you please elevate that foot, as much as possible. As high as you can.

And these 2 exclude each other how?
You make it seem like having such a high end keeps you from practicing.
But could it be that you just don't like how they look? :)
