Hey Guys,

just want to show you the progress of my restauration,
First of all I want to thank all the guys who sell me the shells for the restoration (specially Atomicdave).

Well, in 2004 I buy a Ludwig Gold Sparkle drumset. I was young and dumb and the seller cheated on me. (False wood, 60s Spurs with 1978 badge and so on)
I realize this years later, but it was to late.
In 2008 my parents had a water damage in their basement and the shells of my Ludwig was damaged, cause the drum set stands in the basement.
I decided to restore it with Keller Maple shells.

In 2013 I buy my DW and the Ludwig goes back in the cases.
2014 iI think about to sell my Ludwig kit, but on the other side, no one will buy it with Keller shells, so my plan was, buy old shells and restore it.
After thinking and thinking about it, I also told to me: "Man, it's a Ludwig, you ever dreamed of it, you can't sell it, take your vintage Sonor Champion acrylic and sell this".

So on friday I start my restauration.
First of all, I want to restore it to a 1970s Set.
My Badges from my old Set are from 1970 to 1973.
I must say, that I like the old 3-Ply Sets a bit more than the 60s Ludwig drums.

Two weeks ago I got my 12x8 red sparkle Tom and last Wednesday a 16x16 floor tom (Wrap was allready removed).
The bass drum (22x14) I will get in 2 weeks.

My drum set I will rewrap in green sparkle.

Red sparkle lovers better don't read this. (See on the picture)
First of all I had to removed the wrap from my 12x8 tom.
It was the first time i removed a wrap, but with a head gun it works fine for me.
After that, I taken of the glue from both drums.
I hate these work !
use lacquer thinner, it worked well on the 16x16 floot tom, but the 12x8 tom looks not that good.

You can see at the pictures how the toms look right now.
What you think ?
Looks it okay to rewrap or should i better remove all ?
Do you remove all the glue when you rewrap it, or did you just sand it ?
Next week I get the green sparkle wrap for the Toms and I will post more.

PS:
Sorry for my bad english, I'm from germany.

Last week I rewrap my floor tom and rack tom.
First time a wrap a tom, the glue smells like hell, it was not that fun :D

Well, tomorrow I will take my router table and do the wrap edge, first try it with a blade, but after i do a really ugly cut in the edge wrap, I decide to make it with a router table.

Bass drum I got from Dave is at the customs since a week at airport Frankfurt/Main, hope I get it soon to end up my work.

If you have any suggestions, feel free to ask

Hey guys,

long time ago since I write, but I want to show a little update.

First of all, i remove the wrap from the bass drum, i will totaly restore the inside of the bass, I allready sand it off and I will do new laquer on the inside (spray can).

Yesterday I make a first test on the floor tom, because I can't wait to see how it looks.
I have to do
- cutting the wrap edge
- do some chrome polish work
- install the badge with the grommet

This is how it looks now.
Sorry, but I took the picture at night, so it's not the best quality.

Things I had to do:

Cutting the wrap edge from the 12x8 and 16x16 tom.
Sand off the glue from the 22x14 bass drum and the 13x9 tom (I buy this one, cause than I can change the rack tom).
Rewrap the bass and the 13" tom.
The bass and the two rack toms need a new bearing edge, this I will do by a local drum builder, cause I want it perfect.
Last but not least, buy new heads and then ... just have the best time of my live ;)

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

So many things happen in the last time.

I make it short.
The drum is finished.
I done new bearing edge on all drums.
I was a bit lazy about taking photos of the process, so I'll post some pictures of the set now.
Not on the picture is the 8x12 tom.
Buy a 9x13 tom on ebay in a really good shape to a resonable price.

So this is how it looks now.

Hope you guys like the set.
Just wait for my new electric stapler to finish up the wrap on the bass drum hoops.

Do you mean the chrome rims ?
Well the rims on the 13" tom should be original, cause I buy this tom in the USA.
On the 16" floor tom I don't know.

Here's a picture of the bearing edge Gerd Stegner (St-Drums) done for me.
Really good work in my opinion.
I just done the edge work on the 12" tom.
