The sound.

It was deep and fat, but 2 headed, with smaller drums. Very different from the Hal Blaine/Porcaro/Kunkel/Philly thing prevalent at the time.

Check out the Leprechaun LP by Chick Corea, Stan Clarke's Journey To Love, Van McCoy's The Hustle, or Airegin with Hubert Laws.
The Hustle sound like a house kit of Vistalites to me. Awful...

Gadd is the man, but nothing about the sound of the drums in this recording would make me want to buy or duplicate them. I think they sound like dead boxes.
