Ya know, I saw that posted on fb yesterday, apparently the photo was from a trip to Japan.
I thought that was Steve Smith in the background but since there were a number of comments on the photo, even some joking about the character in the background's shorts, but none bringing up that it was SS, I didn't think much more of it.

I think someone here is taking the words to literal, but okay.
May or may not necessarily be high end, but certainly one of the popular consumer 'point & shoot' camera models that when powered up, rolled the lens out and retracted the lens cover.

That is ... unfortunate. Steve is a master technician behind the kit. It’s like when you’ve just solved world hunger and are walking off stage clutching your medal of honor ... and someone snaps a shot of that mucus running down from crying during the acceptance speech.
