The one that Stewart has, as the one I have, have the normal "Gladstone" type strainer. The Jupiter had a parrallel action strainer with the rods going through the inside of the drum. There is a pristine Jupiter currently at Fork's Drum Closet.

As Tommy stated, the Jupiter had a parallel stainer. The cheaper model with the "Gladstone" type strainer was simply listed in the Pearl catalogs as "snare drum", and was available with either a steel or brass shell. I had the steel shelled model and it wasn't anything special. Just another supra clone, but not as good.

I have the brass shell version. 3 lines. I played it on a LOT of records in the 70s and 80s. Played it sparingly in the 90s and early 2000s. Right now, it's on the shelf in my office, looking pretty good, considering the unbelievable amount it has been played over the years. It was my everyday snare drum for about 20 years, as well as a 6 1/2 just like it. My old friend Tim Stafford really liked the 6 /2, so I gave it to him about 20 years ago. They are rally nice drums. The Jupiter can be a real pain as the snares can get out of adjustment and it takes a rocket scientist to get them lined up again.

Resurrecting an old thread here. Today I got my Pearl COB like Copeland uses and I tuned it up, adjusted the snare wires and I just gotta say it’s really fun to play. It’s got great crack and it’s well made. I think that most of us would agree that metal was made better back in the day. I have the Tama Copeland model too and that’s a great snare but the Pearl is a little lighter. Both are great.

From the Stewart Copeland book by Joe Bergamini: "The Pearl B4514 COB snare was acquired sometime after he recorded Regatta de Blanc ....by the time of the Zenyatta Mondatta tour, the Pearl snare had made its way into Stewart´s set-up." Up until that time he had been using a 5x14" Tama King Beat.

Ive been using my 4514 COB Snare pretty much exclusively over the last year or so.. The thing has a great feel, nice crack, and a warm tone. I played a COB Gretsch years back with die cast hoops and it felt very choked to me. I moved away from using that drum.. But this one, with the die cast hoop ONLY on the batter side, sounds fantastic

I also put an 80’s Gretsch die cast hoop on the batter. Stewart actually had a Tama die cast on his. His drum tech Jeff Seitz told me that via social media. By the way, that’s cool Stewart responded to your message on FB regarding your band. Were you the guy I chatted with about your band covering that song “Coming Back to Life” by Floyd?”

Yeah I’ve chatted back and forth with Jeff Seitz too! He’s cool about chatting anything Copeland related.
I’ve seen him mention that the whole reason for the cast batter hoop was due to Stewart constantly breaking triple flange hoops. I can’t believe that anyone could actually break one
