I just got this notice from my rep at Sweetwater, probably everyone who's bought stuff there is getting it:

I wanted to personally let you know that we are expecting price increases on many of our brands in the coming weeks. These increases are due to shipping, production, and supply chain issues in the music retail and manufacturing industries. If there is a piece of gear you are on the fence about, now is the time to buy! Even if the gear isn't in stock, we can lock in the current lower pricing and make sure you are taken care of. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions!
Anyway, I and others have been suggesting this all along, prices are going up. Stock and production is down and demand hasn't dropped much and that equals higher prices.

And I suggested this in another thread, it's going to be or is now a sellers market. If you have surplus stuff (you guys with 20+ snares), now might be a good time to liquidate and cash in.

Best way to stoke demand is to scream about scarcity.

I once sold cars ... My most effective pitch was, "Well, there's this other couple who drove this car yesterday. I couldn't hold it for them and I can't hold it for you today. They're coming back later tonight."

Glad to get my comment in before this thread locks.

Did you ever listen to that episode of This American Life done at the car dealership in NJ? You should, it’s amazing.

Shipping prices have rocketed, mostly from China where the vast majority of items are made (or components sourced from)

40ft Container China - Europe (each)
2019 - $2500
2020 - $8000
Today - $16,500 - 2 of the main ports in China have been pretty much closed down for a month due to Covid cases /Ships out of position as they're not unloaded / Containers of PPE sitting in destination countries not emptied and returned / World shortage of available Shipping containers / Government shipments paying over the odds to get availability

It all adds up to everything getting more expensive with slower delivery
It'll be like this for the rest of this year at least.

I try to support local drum shops. But I’ve ordered from sweetwater before…and the service has always been excellent. They also call you after you order to discuss anything about the order or ask you about yourself. It’s a really nice touch that’s been lost in modern day sales.

Since they are only 15 minutes away from me, Sweetwater IS my local drum shop.

I pay attention to stuff like this, always have - for decades. The air bubble in every tube of toothpaste, the dimple in the bottom of the mayo jar.

I knew this was coming. A month or two ago I noticed my deodorant brand ran out very quickly and now it seemed smaller, so I switched brands after over 30 years of using this one.

This is now a total buyer-beware market for the foreseeable future, so buyer beware is all I'm suggesting, for anything you buy now, musical equipment or other:
