FYI…. I’m considering listing the 22/13/16 from my collection if anyone wants to message me to discuss. Mint condition.

It was my pleasure hosting you and getting to hear how my stuff sounds in those spaces from another vantage point with a fine player like yourself at the helm. Glad you share my enthusiasm for what those drums bring to the table.

How ‘bout those Premiers though!
The premiers were some of the best sounding drums I have ever heard and some of the best feeling drums I have ever played! Certainly a big fan of premier now.

Way to go man! Talk about putting your money where your mouth is... Welcome to the dark side ;-)

You hit it on the nail pretty good with your descriptions of the kits. In the mean time, to keep you drooling while you wait for your new kit, if you haven't already, you can browse Ash Soan's YT and social media for some BK porn. The guy does everything from pristine hi-fi recordings to hyper processed drum-machine sounding extravaganza with his BK's... Highly educational and entertaining...

Good luck with the sale of the Ludwigs. Can't wait to see the new pics
It’s funny you bring Ash up. I have loved that guys playing for quite some time. He is the player that helped me recognize the difference of what we hear sitting at the kit vs what the engineer hears in the control room. That dude knows how to make a drum do it’s thing. It’s pretty amazing to me the sound he achieves in the many genres he works.

Oh yeah his engineering/mixing skills are equally as impressive as his deep deep pockets.... And he's a tasty mofo as well.

As I recently dove into home-recording myself, his channel have been invaluable to me.

Well, thanks to everyone on here who weighed in on the decision. Both the in-favor-of and the against opinions were really helpful!
I will have more to share soon but just as a quick glimpse as to what has transpired…

Alright! Perhaps we can call this my big finalé in sharing the two kits back to back.
I am not a film editor; I shot this footage with my iPhone; I am not an engineer; and I am for sure no Carter McLean. But I really wanted a comparison of the same player with the same mics in the same setting in the two kits. Maybe it’ll be helpful for someone else who have the same questions I did.

Also, last thing, I freaking love both kits. This really is an apples and oranges comparison. The two are such stunning kits both with their own unique charecter and therefore their own unique opportunities to fit into music being created. I bought these broads from a DFO’er and sold the Ludwig to a DFO’er. I think we all got to share in passing the torches of amazing instruments to one another.
Anyways, here it is!

Wow, both sound amazing. But the Broadkasters... They've got some bottom end!

I've had the same troubles with the butt end screw of my BK snare as well. It took me a while to get it dialed in right and have no rattles.

Great sounding comparo vid mate.

Get another Ludwig!

If you want something new & comparable, move up to a Legacy Maple. I like Gretsch, but I wouldn't sell my Ludwig's for them.

Here is a great comparison:

That’s pretty interesting considering the price and the high praise of the series.
Did you add another spacer or anything to the butt plate? Or did you find another trick to dial it in?
Thanks my friend!

I love this video! If you look closely you will notice that I had a strinkingly similar sable black kit….because I copied him almost to the T. Hahaha. I love that dudes playing. Watched this video many times before I bought the classic maple from Ludwig last year.
I have a WFL which is why I decided to get the classic maple. Figured I had what the legacy series is mimicking.
Who knows, I’ll probably get a legacy before too long. I seem to be buying and selling spree. Hah!

The most noticeable differences in that video to my ear are that the Gretsch mounted tom had more sustain than the Ludwig, and Ludwig floor tom had slightly more sustain than the Gretsch.

Agreed! They have a growl to them. Pretty inspiring kit to sit behind.
