In fact, the only problem with that kind of question is a financial one...because, honestly, if you had the cash, don't you think you would buy both of them, even the 3, in the best finish that exists for each? I will do it!!! Ok, I will have to buy a house to showcase them then....

Ho my god, that's the blue curly Maple I want....well, too expensive to buy from them, I already have a quote from Murat, I still have to wait for some assets sold in France...but, as you have to wait for 8 months once the deposit has been made, that gives you times to save for them...

DCP might be willing to deal if you are in a hurry, but otherwise go with Murat!

Murat has a very good relationship with Hoshino USA because he sells a LOT of Tama Star kits . He will get you a killer deal .

Any time I called. They didn't take me seriously, they replied basically with easy advices without even listening to was what I was asking. They might have thought that a beginner, moreover a keys player, will never buy a Star Reserva Maple as his first snare, I made me feel that I was too little for them and they didn,'t want to loose time for me.... So, instead of helping with the snare I was almost sold. They told me the basic "takes black beauty, that's it. Plus the rate and taxes are not in my favor...but at that one so bought it at Sweetwater, super fast and I got to get the advices from Nick who was really helpful. In two days, I got it!!!.... But too expensive compared to buying in Canada but am was not aware of high end drums shop like Murat at time...ok I had a lot of question, first snare. 1200, only YouTube video...so, normal I was asking. Anyway. They are god for uSA but not for people living in Canada.

I think yes, I had no idea about what a Star Maple could cost here in Canada, it was more than what I had expected maybe because I had the prices in USA in mind but he proposed to me a fair deal...And at least, he replies to me without thinking that a keys player should or would never be spending that much on a drums kit which was more the impression I was left with after having talked to DCP.

Sorry to hear that. I got a discount when I was actually in the store. Any other purchases have been online, so no I discounts there. But Murat is good folk - and especially that you live in Canada.

I picked up a Star Walnut earlier this month. I wanted the fast rack toms, 16x16 FT and 22x16 kick. Finish be damned, I went for the lowest price I could find on a new kit. Now that I got it I quite like the finish and the drums sound absolutely killer. Finish is Cinnamon Japanese Chestnut.

Thank you sir! There were a couple of finishes I liked but it was config/price that were the driving factors. All I know is Tama is asking nearly $1200 more for the same kit that I bought just before New Years what with their price increases here in 2022. From that perspective this finish looks absolutely fanatastic! :D

Now I can hunker down for the winter with my Tama Star Walnut and my Sonor Prolite. Life's good if a bit frigid here in the 'burgh!

How would you compare these two kits?

All PHX series drums are made at a Yamaha factory in Japan, and the Absolute Hybrid Maple, Live Custom, Stage Custom Birch and Gigmaker are all made in China – with the Absolute Hybrid Maple and Stage Custom Birch being made in the brand new Yamaha Factory in China.

When I was looking for a new set Yamaha told me that only traditional Japanese instruments were made in Japan, they said nothing about PHX several years ago.
