Inherently flawed question.

If a band sparks an emotional response enough for you to "love" them, then they're doing their artistic job, and thus a good band.

End of story. For me, anyways.

Ymmv. But I think it's wrong if it does. ;)

Leonard Cohen . They actually made a theatrical production out of his life . Why ? His brand of darkness had a wide appeal amongst certain types of people , especially women . Who am I to judge him or them ? He may have children all over the world who don't know who he is . I'd say Cohen was a substantive poet who happened to know a few chords on the guitar , Jim Morrison was a psychosis looking for a place to happen .

And happen he did .

You can't digitize the unpredictability of this stuff and squeeze it out onto a spread sheet .

12 minute song or not , I vote NOT Prog ..

Litmus test for Prog is “extensive “use of odd time signatures …..
I put parenthesis around extensive to emphasize finding a couple of odd time parts doesn’t make one Prog …

That is my opinion …
Is 'Invisible Touch' a prog album? Genesis were definitive a prog band in their early days. Supertamp had prog roots, but by the time 'Breakfast in America' was released, they moved away from prog rock.

I wonder what other bands in addition to Supertramp would be considered terrible by the OP.

Bruce Springsteen.

Five Finger Death Punch

Motley Crue

Emerson, Lake & Pomposity

U2

I'm all about positivity, though, and the bands I'm really enjoying right now:

Amon Amarth

Clutch

Dark Tranquillity

Alcest (French lyrics)

Kvelertak (Sings in Norwegian)

How did those four guys decide which two got to wear those cool man-panties?

(the guy on the right looks slightly embarrassed by the photo shoot... must be the drummer)
In typical 80s and 90s fashion when Joey De Maio, the genuinely very talented bass player and leader of the band, was asked why they wore such skimpy costumes, he explained that it was quicker to get into the action with the ladies (may be paraphrasing but that was the gist of it). Despite appearances the band never took themselves too seriously.

did anyone mentioned Bob Dylan? I think this is a perfect example of a musician i personally dislike for the musicality, but still love the songs.
Another one would be David Bowie. I never understood how he was so much praised, I thought he sings terrible. Now i love him and his songs.

maybe i am disqualfied for not naming bands, but well..

Love Supertramp.
I can usually find some element of most music that appeals to me.
But St. Vincent Can’t be Wiped off of the Planet Soon Enough. (Off Topic)

I don’t doubt that you are all about positivity, however, the lyrics of the bands you’re really enjoying right now…

As an English speaker, clearly I’m not talking about the last two you list. But my guess is that they aren’t singing about rainbows and picnics and the like, in French and Norwegian.
