England's heavy-metal loving Kerrang magazine is celebrating National Drummer Dray (Nov. 15) by naming the 11 Most Instantly Recognizable Drummer.

Here's the list that is not ranked according to how instantly recognizable each is:

Keith Moon

Philthy Animal Taylor (Motörhead)

Lars Ulrich

Paul Cook (Sex Pistols)

Travis Barker

Bill Ward

Dave Lombardo (Slayer/Suicidal Tendencies/Misfits)

Joey Jordison (Slipknot)

Tommy Lee

Joey Castillo (Queens of the Stone Age)

John Bonham

I know England is a different market but at least in the US; Dave Grohl, Alex Van Halen and Vinnie Paul would all be more readily recognized than Joey Castillo and I’ve never even heard Paul Cook play hard rock or heavy metal. For old English punk I would think Topper Headon would have gotten the nod

Recognizable by playing? I'm guess this is by photograph right?

Nope, sadly I went in after typing that and read the "article" and it's by playing that you can identify "a mile away". I'd say only a small handful of those would be identifiable if you isolated just the drums. Then again, why am I bothering to comment on this list?
