How is Cedar like as a wood for a drum shell?
Well, I didn't go out and pick Cedar specifically. I won this snare in the "Crappiest 2020/2021" contest!

It is my first Solid Shell snare. I love it - very responsive, and it sounds like a really good snare drum. :)

Sorry, didn't mean to be glib. I don't have that great of an ear to tell the differences between different wood species. I have it tuned probably medium tight, and it has a fairly short note, which is great for the church I play in. I don't need a long ringy sound.

Here is a kit I just can't get rid of. 1988 Pearl BLX 6 ply 7.5mm all Birch shell in Sequoia Red. No pipes penetrating the shells. Using RIMS mounts here. Sweet powerfull Birch sound with great projection. Sounds great with Clear G2's. Changed out all the lugs to the 3 part long lug which has zero problems. 14" Floor Tom is a Sessions Custom Birch/Kapur in Sequoia Red.
