My usual Sunday morning gig. Tried something different on the bass. Pulled the small pillow. Used a Wekl copy rolled towel muffler on the batter. Felt strip on the resp. Way better!
Hit Al Green’s “love and happiness” And just rode that bad boy till everybody was dancing. Got lots of comments, even had a women from the crowd come up and give me a hug just because she loved my drumming so much. Love my phunky orphan set. A good day!

Still waiting for my Gretsch Broadkaster 18", so for now I'm using this Tama Club-JAM with a Gretsch 4160B (COB but with 302 hoops) and my usual K Cons: 22" Overhammered Bounce, 19" Crash/Ride, 14" hi hats. The venue is a new "speakeasy" in the basement of a local inn. Super-fun night.
That set-up screams play me!

Is that club in Hamilton?

I have to come visit soon

Silly set up last night..played a hall with an ill thought out stage..long and narrow with a drum riser way in the back..I was the last one to show up so they "saved a space" for me..it was a last minute cancellation gig, and our bass player had loaned the lights to his brother who was miles away and hadn't returned them yet so we scrambled for a couple of old heaters and this new thing we are trying by bringing lamps. That one in the middle eventually got moved, I think..maybe not..I don't remember...it works in the smaller rooms..goofy..but the gig went well, regardless..

First hit in the new office. This one is a unicorn set for me. Early 80's RC's in Real Wood... 12-14-20. In all my 40 years of playing, I've never seen these sizes in this finish come up. Tama CW helped me pinpoint the manufacture dates to '83-'84. To add to the excitement, it was also the first hit with the Yamaha Crosstown hardware. I've been through the DW and Tama lightweight stuff and found that I just can't do flat-based stands. I play a lot of outdoor gigs and even the slightest breeze sends my cymbals places I don't want them to go. No such problem with the Yamaha stuff, as the tripod base provides plenty of stability. The drums exceeded my expectations in the music, and the band guys loved the sound and look as well. This one's definitely a keeper.

Gotta love the natural RC. What a stunner. I had a 70's/80's kit like that for a few years, with bigger sizes for the addition. Amazing sound.
Thanks brotha! I have a 9000 set in the same finish but pre-RC with the tail light lugs top and bottom. That set is 12-13-16-22. Both sets sound amazing, but the 12-14-20 RC set is perfect for 99% of the gigs I play. The 9000 set stays at the practice shed.

I loved that they looked as they sounded, warm as heck. These sizes were 10/12/13/14/14/16/18/20/24.

I also had a black wrapped model in 12/14/20. It had an extra non-Yamaha mount so I got it for about 250,- or something.

Very Nice, are those the Tama Classic Stands? Any slippage problems?
