That time of of month came and went for the monthly DCBS jam last Sunday. We (The Dealers) got up and did a few of our tunes. The backline is a PDP, and I used my own Gretsch COB for our set. And I got to road test the vest my wife made for me. Mark Stutso of the Nighthawks came up and played with a group of highly talented DC blues muscians, after our group, and put on a clinic in blues shuffling.

The vest...This one is called Hot Goth Girls.

Yep! He was very courteous and a great player. Wanted to know if his old K was cutting it out front (sounded great). Said he normally doesn’t bring it on tour.
Kudos to you Ptrick on such a gig. I’ll admit to knowing Ambrosia but never having heard of Burleigh Drummond. (Best pro drummer name ever, by the way.)

So as I often do when encountering something or should I say someone new on this forum, I went straight to YouTube.
What a great player. Now I know that Ambrosia was originally a prog band and their drummer was rehearsing with Frank Zappa before that band took off.
It’s humbling being here.

God help me, I said, as I walked into the studio and saw a thrashed rental kit.

The ubiquitous Pearl Exports with stunning detail of period and genre correct details: Mismatched heads, peeling badge, abused hardware, 10” rack and 16” floor, snare of questionable provenance and copious duct tape residue.

But you know what? They were well tuned and sounded wonderful!

Room acoustics play a role, of course —ceiling height, wall treatment, flooring...more variables than a romance. Even the Zildjian zbt hats sounded nice.

Proof yet again more affordable drums can shine; or perhaps proof that for every room there is a kit, and for every kit a room.

Ok, she tolerates a drummer AND sews him clothes?
The woman is a goddess.
It’s more than I deserve. That is for sure. We spent most of the day at fabric stores around DC looking for new patterns and ideas. We found and bought up enough material to make a matching suit jacket for the Hot Goth Girls vest.

Nothing new from a few weeks ago... played today with my jam band trio using the same Montineri kit, George Way snare and the Agop Signature rig that I always play with this particular band, but darn it, I just like posting in the office tread! To give you something different, I did angle down and include the Porter & Davies amp for my throne...

With my big band last night for a local couples dance club. I’m playing my ‘68 Slingerlands (minus one floor tom) that I bought from idrum4fun. I decided to substitute a Pearl Ultracast snare for this particular gig. Great sound!

I simply cannot stop staring at your WMP Slingerland kit. To me, that setup and color simply define how a drumset should look.
