Used the house kit tonight for a jazz trio gig as my shoulder is giving me some problems and humping gear is no fun..... the Brady snare looked out of place among the taped up and badly tuned TAMA kit but it all worked in the end with some tweaking that the next drummer will likely undo for a rock band...

Playing JJs. This is our local beer watering hole with the best variety of live music anywhere. Just make sure you've had a tetanus shot. Lol. My go-to orphan/ monstro kit (fatest sounding kick drum I own). Mixed bag of cymbals and a 402.

This is the set I use at a few small regular bars and restaurants I play frequently. I use it with a soul, r and b, motown revue as well as my country, oldies bar band. Spaun 20" bass drum (was 18" deep but Precision cut it down to around 14-15") 14x11 hanging tom that put legs on, Acrolite with an old brass ('20s) clip type single flange hoop on top, the new Tama lightweight stands. Have been using a set of Mastersound 14" hi hats for years on everything. Ride cymbal for the last few months has been a 21" Zildjian Sweet Ride with 4" crack running along a groove near the bell. The crash on the left is '60s 18" A. that I just got, but had been using a 17" Paiste 2002 or an 18" Giant Beat. For larger gigs I use a 14x14 floor tom, a 10" mounted tom, a Sakae aluminum 14 x 6.5 and add a second crash.

Unique kit! I’m wondering what effect the crack has on the sound of your Sweet Ride(?)

Have a 3 consecutive nights jazz gig at a new Restaurant and Jazz Lounge opening and just finished the first night. Played the house drums - a fairly new Ludwig Questlove small kit. The 16" bass was not that bad and the mounted tom ok but the floor tom was impossible to get any decent tone out of. Pity. Used my snare and cymbals.

Monthly bar gig. Some are good, some not so much. Last month we had about 75 people, drinking and dancing; last night about 7, staring at us blankly.
Our keys/vocalist was unable to attend, taking with him half of our tunes. The guitarist’s amp had an obnoxious droning hum and his method of dialing it out was to turn it up. The PA was inhabited by robotic squeaking mice.
Without people, the acoustics in this bar are horrid. No monitors, so at times I could not hear the vocals. When this happened I sang along to the songs myself so as not to lose my place.
Despite all this, there were times when the groove sat down fat and wide, and, as an amateur, those are the moments that make it all seem worthwhile.

Regardless of the acoustics and technical issues, the lighting was nice, and playing out on a Friday is a good way to end the work week.

Ptrick, do you have a close-up of that tom holder? It puzzles me every time I see a pic of your drums.

It’s an Ayotte turret mount with their Tom holder. Basically a long L arm that can be slid in and out, and the turret mount (base plate) can be turned 360 degrees on the drum to achieve Tom positions you can’t get with other mounts. Makes having offset toms a breeze without having to use a stand or rack.

This half and half kit is driving my OCD to the brink. I need the PO to find that 12x8 black diamond pearl tom.

Ok so theres a thread about whether or not kits should match. Normally I dont think that it matters but this would make me crazy as well. I dont mind the snare not matching. But the toms and bass need to.

It’s getting sent to my folks place in TX. I now have a 3pc Renown kit with an 18” bass drum.
