Up for sale is a brand-new pair Timothy Roberts modified 14” hi hats, modded from a pair of Vintage Zildjian As. Timothy brought the weight down to 810g and 950g, and used his signature patina which (I believe) is the same he uses for his new Tributary series. This is an amazingly versatile set of hats that would deliver beautifully in settings from acoustic jazz trio to electrified rock gigs. The patina mellows out the higher overtones and gives them a warm, played-in sound (and looks rad). The mod was completed in January ‘23. There are no cracks, keyholes, fleabites, or any other issues.

I’m asking $350 for DFO folks and will ship anywhere in the continental US for $15.

Please see the video and let me know if you have any questions. Apologies for the bad iphone audio and video quality.

Thank you for your interest!

Out of curiosity, does the modification remove the old zildjian stamp? Does he put a new stamp on there? Thanks!

For this mod the original hats were unbelievably heavy, and so much weight was removed that the stamps we almost completely removed as well. There may be a faint trace of the stamp on the bottom hat.
Generally, I think Mr. Roberts can preserve stamps with his mods but it affects where he can lathe, hammer, etc., and in this case I just wanted him to do whatever he thought would produce the best results.

Also, in case it’s relevant to your question, he did engrave his signature on the inside of the lower hat’s bell (shown in a picture above). Thanks!

Wow, so the modification made them so much better that now you're selling them?

Haha I see why you say that.
I’m selling them because I just bought a pair of Lauritsen 14”s from a member of the forum, so they’re redundant in the arsenal, and I need to recoup the $.

You’ve only sold gear you’ve hated, never regretted selling something, and never sold something nice?!
You’re better at gear than me!

What was done to them? Lathe and patina only? Hammered?

I had the opportunity to buy a lot of great cymbals this week and need to free up some $, so I’m dropping the price on this and some of my other listings.
Now $275 + $15 shipping to continental US.
Thank you!
