The idea is that because it has less padding then you really have to sit correctly to be comfortable.

I actually thought of 2 more after yesterday.

-Kumu Drums. They have been around longest, they make birch kits with different shell thicknesses.

-Saari-rummut. Sets and snares with their own wood lug design. Mikael Wikman has a kit or 2.

-Northern Drumworks
Pretty new company making stave kits

-Wacco drums
Not entirely sure if they make their own shells, but it's definitively more than just drum assembling.

-Mezo drums
Stave drums with really interesting design. The inside walls are wavy so they have quite dry overtones.

-Sorva Custom Drums
-Cast and seamless metal snares. I have one of their stainless steel snares and it's fantastic!

-Sampo Drums
Stave snare drums

-Ossi-percussion
They mainly make true solid conga drums, but also done true solid snares carved from one piece of wood.

-Rumpu-seppä
Snare maker.
Not 100% sure if they make the shells in the house, but it looks like it.

I really, really love my Roc-N-Socs, but now you've got me thinking about this spartan drum throne.

There's a truism for rowing machines and I suspect it applies here too. Cushy plush seats feel nice at first. But I think the more padding you carry with you, the less padding you want on your chair. My 60lb kid who's sit bones gouge when he tries to sit in my lap could probably use a bit. Myself, too thick a padding causes my butt to go sleep, even if it feels comfy at first sit.

I'm not sure if it's anything more complex than an uncomfortable seat forces you to move a bit and maintains circulation, but if you have enough to want to lose weight, you don't really want more than the thinnest layer of padding. I think there may be some unexplored formula for how thick vs how cushy, but inches of soft plush is a recipe for problems.

Is Eucalyptus any good for drum shells ? Grows well down under. If I remember correctly Premier put some in their XPK line of drums.

Whilst assembling material for an upcoming Top Vegemite-Eating Drummers, I stumbled across an astonishing news article revealing that Australia (pop. 25.9 million) -- a country heretofore known chiefly for Crocodile Dundee, the Croc Hunter (R.I.P), AC/DC and Kangaroos -- has an economy heavily weighted in the manufacture of drum sets, with as many drum factories as the number of Australian bands I can name off the top of my head: Divinyls, Rose Tattoo, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, The Easybeats, INXS, Midnight Oil, Cold Chisel (?) and Men at Work!

If you break this down on a per-capita basis, New York State alone should have at least six drum companies. Slackers.

What I find surprising is how few recognize the resilience, resourcefulness and tough work ethic of the Australian spirit . That they have this many drum builders is another tribute to their character .Numerous island peoples tend to be like that . Iceland, Taiwan , England , Ireland, Japan ... for example .

Perhaps they emailed him and he didn't respond (like I have a few times with no response whatsoever), so they left him out.

I'm quite sure Stephan Fidock died a few years ago, so the Fidock drum company is most likely no more.
