I was at that gig!
Hitchhiking as a teenager for 100 miles to Hamburg and spending the night on a cemetery, because it was too late to catch a ride back home after the concert. Because I HAD to see and hear Elvin in person!
(But that gig was actually not October, but March 26th, 1986 at Fabrik Hamburg.)

lemme be clear those aren't my video's above) but,

..1st time I saw him was in 1979 in Cambridge MA, with Peter Warren and David Murray - 5 ft- from him in a bar/ I was 23..

then / I saw him in the early 90s at Seven Springs Ski Resort (talked to him that day) signed a book for me; Daylight afternoon concert and clinic- kind of thing) He used rentals- a Remo mixed black and grey with all his sizes)

the 79 show in Cambridge the Audio is on you tube. I also recorded with a cassette player (and listened to it for years) and evidently another did also .....and it's on you tube !)

They did Central Park West and India and Zoot Suite...it was/ sonor rosewood all over the place double bass- it's that pic of the set with three concert toms squeezed in the center/ I think/ P 2oo2s/ I was 5ft from him for 2 hours.
I've listened to lot of Jack transcribed some things and love his Fire.
Those videos I posted can see where and how he starts his rolls pretty clear

Great. I saw him at the student union at UB with Peter Warren, John Purcell and Chico Freeman. Probably 1981. Mind blowing and yes rosewoods all the way. I dont know about cymbals.
I saw him at Artpark with Metheny, Holland, Hancock. Whenever that tour was.
I saw him with Jarrett at Eastman Theatre. Im not sure of that date. And also at Artpark with that trio around then.
Solo at the Albright Knox Art Gallery Im not sure the year but January 28 early 2000’s. Actually half the concert was solo the other half duo with keyboard player Chester Thompson.
i think thats it. I wish I had seen him with John Abercrombie.

I liked watching him sing Jimi Hendrix above and the Duo with Frisell.
His "baddest" (...) early days track is " What I Say" from Miles Davis Live/Evil.
and this set is a 20" deep x 16" head drum (Hollywood the Italian brand)

That's what "What I Say" was done on.
20 deep X 16 head
I'm sure you've heard the track
