Watching this BBC murder mystery show - Bletchley Circle- San Francisco. Several episodes have scenes in the jazz club. It is set in 1956. They seem pretty good on the clothes cars and glasses the people wear. Then they pan by the drum kid which is clearly contemporary Yamaha's with silver badges and fairly new cymbal stands. Ok its an decent show but couldn't someone have done a little research and gotten something period correct or at least made it look that way? If a drum newbie like me can spot it then it is pretty obvious.

Yeah, I watch this show and the drum kit bugs the hell out of me. I bet there is an electrician or plumber somewhere saying " that just isn't the right piping/conduit for the period" too but I don't k ow any better so it's fine.

Budget. They would need someone who knows the correct era, able to find the right gear, and hope it doesn't cost too much to buy or rent.

Wardrobe selection is usually pretty big, especially from the BBC, so finding the right era clothing isn't as difficult, plus they already have a wardrobe specialist to begin with.
