Two Up One Down Spotted

Saw Blues Traveler this week in Atlanta. Don't see many rockin the two up one down setup these days. They put on a great show!

They played the big festival in our town in Dixon a couple years back. It was a wreck. John popper went to our old bass players house bought a qtr pound of weed from him and was so messed up he walked off stage after a couple songs.

Yeah I do. I’m 6’4 so I have a pretty wide wingspan. For this tour I was also using 16.5” sticks so the reach was extra long. I’ve since switched back to standard length and the setup is a bit tighter.

I've never quite figured out what to do with the china (don't have one as a result) if I did I'm not sure it'd need to be in the coveted ride spot

Two up, one down.... I prefer it 33.3% more than the new "old" standard of just 2 toms!

My laziness demands the smallest kit I can get away with, but when I find myself making too many musical decisions to work around "missing" toms, I give in and bring a 2nd tom. I play one up, one down when I can get away with it, and two up, one down when I can't (or shouldn't).

I atypically play a four piece kit , but I have been known to use a 5 piece on occasion .

Back when I did 2 up/1 down that's how I set mine up, with only a ride and two crashes however. I think it's a better trade-off for positioning the ride closer if you want that extra voice.

That way puts the hi hat too far left for me , I like the ride where it ends up 2 up …

I love the 5 pc two up one down.
