Lot of info on S/L: Here is an American made, four piece shell pack of 1981-1983 Ludwig SL series drums. These were the immediate precursor to Ludwig Rockers which came out in 1984. Rockers also had black and silver badges, however the Rocker badges had a square around the serial number. The SL snare and toms are 4-ply, select American wood veneers, (North Carolina poplar) with maple interior. The bass drum is 6-ply poplar.

I found a DFO link from 2016 - The S/L are "Select" Rockers...see here. Made between the Standards and Rocker lines in the 80's.....or may be "Something for less" (per MLayton)...

Yeah, I'm with you on that.
Catalogue pics often show only a partial example or an example that either never went into actual production, or was only used for a very short time.
Everything else about that kit screams "Mark Time", so I'll go with that one.
It's a Mark Time kit.

Elvis
Is Elvis in the building? Winner, winner, chicken dinner! It’s a 3 ply shell.
