Recently sent a package to Oh Canada. The package value was declared for $600 along with insurance to match. The receiver gets a bill from UPS for $150 in duties and taxes! This was not including the actual shipping cost.

Wow!

Welcome to my world Eric !!
UPS is the worst carrier for shipping to Canada . They take a brokerage fee of minimum $60 right off the top, regardless of the value of the item . If the item was worth $5 - they will bill the receiver $60 for brokerage . They are also questionable about how label the item for duty as well.

I always ask to have items shipped via USPS when possible . Far less expensive and you don’t get raped and pillaged on the brokerage fee .

This happened to me in reverse. Bought a big ticket item from Murat. UPS held it in customs for a few days requiring a ton of information from me and I'm the buyer. After a couple of days the shipment was released and I received the item.

2 weeks later I get a bill from UPS for all kinds of charges. Talk about blindsided. Sure takes a good deal and destroys it.
