So a crazy thing just happened...I took the heads off, cleaned the rims and cleaned the hardware a bit. Then I put everything back on and straightened out the snares a tad, and holy cow, I thought I was playing a Supra! BANG! I have never heard this drum sound so good. I guess when the rims are that dirty, it cuts down on their ability to ring, eh? But I thought it sounded great before, and now it's just way too good for the likes of me.
...you have 4 choice WFL's and a Jazz Fest...
Well, all 5 are WFL's. One WFL 8-lugger is basically a Jazz Fest - just deeper (6.5). The other 8-lugger, is a WFL Buddy Rich with the Oyster Blue Pearl wrap (5.5). Love those Classic Strainers. I don't see too many WFL's with Oyster Blue - so this one isn't played out too much. Not sure how common these WFL's are with Oyster Blue, so I keep it at home mainly - it's my favorite wrap from this era of drums.
I played my WFL 6.5x14 w/ 6-lugs yesterday live - sounded great mic'd up running through the soundboard. Nice low tone, yet it's got 'pop' to it.
