As far as I’m concerned, an aging rocker doing an album of standards (or should-be standards like the second song below) with a big jazz band is usually a recipe for disaster, but the new Chryssie Hynde album is really good. The arrangements are lush and romantic, but with an undercurrent of psychedelia. Her voice is still great and suits the material very well.
When you're a good singer to begin with, you can usually transcend genre's with little trouble.
She has a great feel for the music, too and I think that helps as well.
I didn't know these tracks existed, thanks for the heads up, Larold.
