Ludwig 402 and Sabian AAs. I have and use many other snares and cymbals but these are the ones that have gone to the most gigs, that work in any situation and that I don’t feel too precious about bringing anywhere. And they sound consistently great. In fact, the cymbals (especially the ride) seem to be getting better with age.

I also have some cheap old Tama Swingstar single braced hardware that I use a lot for gigging and it seems to be bulletproof. Meanwhile I’ve had to fix/repair/replace all kinds of higher end DW Collectors drum hardware and pedals.

My 14x6 Tama Starclassic G Maple was my workhorse gigging snare.

15" Paiste 2002 Sound Edge Hi Hats- I swapped my other cymbals out, but usually gigged on these.

Pearl Eliminator double pedal and Roc N Soc throne - have to include them for all the abuse they take.

During covid work from home I decided to treat myself to a new snare- a Yamaha Recording Custom 14x6.5 Brass. I haven't gigged on it, but would make a great workhorse snare.

I have bought and sold a LOT of drum sets and snare drums and cymbals over the last twenty years or so , and I get infatuations for certain brands , models etc , but I always come back to two drum brands when all is said and done and that is Gretsch and Ludwig . I have been fortunate to have ordered what has become my all time favourite drum set (Gretsch ) in my favourite finish and it pairs beautifully with my favourite snare drum (Ludwig Engraved Black Beauty). This is my Go To combination for anything I might find myself playing .

For the detail conscious we are talking about a Gretsch USA Custom kit 20/12/14 in satin Caribbean Twilight finish - no suspension bands or RIMS type mounts . Tom mounts on the Toms and bass , cymbal arm in the bass . Harkening back to what my first kit was like .

Ludwig 5 x 14 Engraved (by John Aldridge) Black Beauty - John also provided all the brass lugs , tension rods and strainer and hoops .

My Hendrix Archetype snare. I'd cry if anything happened to it. Next would be my Sabian HHX Evolution cymbals. Last but not least, my Tama Star Walnut kit. Those are the BIG 3 around this joint.

A little worse for wear, but I still use my Purecussion throne from 1987 (cycle type large seat, piano adjustment).

Drum hardware; Tama Bass drum pedals and hi-hat that have lasted 20 years plus and my late 80's Classic Ludwig kit but this little Monitor/Mini PA has lasted me more than 10 years of great clear music.
