What drummer had the most affect on their bands sound / identity??

First name that came to my mind was Steve "Machine Gun" Smith. His monster grooves and humongous sound drove those tunes and they've never sounded the same. It is AOR but Frontiers was a tour de force of Steve Smith. The previous albums also benefitted from his touch and feel.

The krautrock group Can would not have sounded the same without Jaki Liebezeit, "the human rhythm machine." Unique and influential, even if he isn't a household name.

I’m a huge fan of this group.
