Buddy Rich played the same solo for 50 years ....And it was never even slightly musical !!!
Well not only (possibly) unpopular but definitely inaccurate. Like the saying goes, ”Just because its your opinion doesn’t make it true!”

The hi hat may be the most annoying “instrument” known to man.
I have no use for it and have removed it from my drum kit entirely for the last 2 years.
The drummer in Jeff Healy’s dixie band played without a hihat. Noone missed it.

Karriem Riggins drums
cracked cymbal and all.
Great track. I saw Karriem with Ray Brown a couple of times and he said he didn't tour with his K because he didn't want to crack it!

I can't stand PS3s as a kick batter head. I can never make out clearly what I'm playing from the throne. Give me an Emperor with felt every day.

Also, more than 16 strands in a snare wire set is too many.

You either have it or you don't.

"it" is obvious without all the practice and the books.

Complimenting or praising mediocrity doesn't do anyone any favors.

While I won't argue your statement as this IS a thread entitled "Your Unpopular Opinions" after all, so all statements are correct, at least for the one making them. BUT (you knew there had to be one right?) I will at offer that even someone who has "it" benefits greatly from a little encouragement as they are improving even more in the craft through their practice and books.

Thats a good thing. Try a gig with no hihat. Just pretend its broken and you cant get it fixed until after the gig.
I once did a three hour rock cover gig with just snare, kick, and an omni ride. It floated. Actually, I think it was pretty darn good. (Full disclosure: I did have a double pedal, as well.)
