The first part of the new rack build.

Now with mostly pdp components, as the 9000 model is way too expensive, for the same job

After WANTING to do it for over 8 years, and FINALLY having it fall into place in just the two previous weeks...I NOW own a Craviotto drum kit!
Frankenstein of course, because I imposed a strict budget and didn't want to spend an arm and a leg.
12x8 Ash rack tom, 14x14 Maple floor tom, 24x14 Maple bass drum.
And I almost got all three within my budget.
Stretch
Mann that 24 is killer. Never saw that one for sale.

I haven’t purchased a drum in a while but I did build one recently. WWII-era WFL 15x12 3-ply mahogany rope-tension shell. Sanded it and then cut it down to 8” depth. Moved the top re-ring down and recut bearing edges for a 30° edge and 1/8” round over outer.
Finished with lacquer and glitter and fitted with hardware and a badge from a 50’s WFL marching snare. Moved the original stick on foil badge to the inside of the drum.

It sounds big and warm. I love muting it and setting the snares really loose. Sounds very 70’s. Very dirty.

Went to the West Coast Drum Shop in Bellevue just to say hi to Chris or Will and left with this Angel 5.5 x 14 oak snare. Pretty little thing with a wonderful, darker sound and I have quickly developed an appreciation for the snare throw and hoops,

Since we have a thread like this for cymbals, why don't we have one for drums and everything else drum related?

Here are my purchases/arrivals over the last 3 months:

Custom Pork Pie birch shell kit in blue sparkle wrap. Sizes are 20x14, 8x7, 10x7, 12x8, and 16x14. More pics to come later:

Gretsch 14x5 Hammered Brass snare:

And I scooped this one up last night. I had been lusting for a solid shell snare drum and the price dropped to the point where I couldn't say no.
Doc Sweeney 14x5.5 solid cherry snare drum:

My latest purchases have been an ASBA Caroline pedal, and a Wuhan 20" Conical china.
I LOVE the Caroline pedal. LOVE IT.
I haven't played the cymbal on the kit yet (just got it), but it sounds really cool.
Trashy, a bit higher pitched/not as dark as the regular china, and it seems to have a slightly longer sustain--which is something I do like.

I just got a DW 8x14 Black Nickel Snare, I found it online and the guy wanted less than 200 for it... almost felt like I was taking advantage of the guy, it was still in the original box, I don't think it was ever used, the heads didn't have a single strike mark. At least it got a good home :)

I’ll vouch for the Tama classic stands. I play heavy music with them often, and mine have held up with big, heavy cymbals. I use Star single tom stands for the rack toms, though.
