Cool, 12 year old thread revived!
Gretsch USA Bronze 14x6.5 is my #1 (Right now till I fall in love with another snare) ;)

At this point in the thread it might be interesting to name your main snare from 2008 and main snare today. How many would say it's the same?

Wow...2008 would have been either a Pearl Ultracast, Dunnett Titanium, or Pork Pie BOB with aluminum die cast hoops (all 14x6.5). All got gig time back then. Still own the Ultracast, has been pushed aside by cast bronze.

Like others have stated, it depends on the date... but right now my first instinct is the reach for my 2018 George Way 7” X 14” (2 ply Acacia) Carter McLean Signature Model. And the odd part is I am typically NOT a wood snare guy. But recently, that is the drum that has been on my stand when one of the copper snares are not.

2008 - 7’s Supra 5x14
Sold it about 5 years ago, replaced it with a Pork Pie Nyatoh Shell 6x13.
A month ago or so just picked up an early 80’s Slingerland Festival 5x14, and it’s taken over the main spot.

My 6 x 14” N&C Walnut SS is my old reliable but the snare that is getting a lot of stand time for me right now is the Sonor 14 x 5.25” Protean snare drum . The Protean may be the most versatile snare I own .

I rotate thru a whole bunch of wood & metal snares for my gigging use, so I can't say I have a "main"..... but if anything leans towards being my main snare it's this 1980 Rogers Dynasonic that I use often.
