I was in Sunday school and she asked me to go up to the Board and make a word out of OGD ….. I wrote DOG . I get it , I should have been thinking God in Sunday school but I honestly wasn’t trying to get laughs . Unfortunately everyone started laughing which enraged her . She pushed me into a chair and squarely punched me in the forehead . I got up and headed for the door , she chased me telling me to get back in the room and I turned to her and said “ no one puts their hands on me but my brothers “ lol . Walked 2 miles home and told my Mother what happened and she marched me back and verbally throttled that Nun . My days of being a Roman Catholic were over . The church wouldn’t marry my Ex and me but if that were to happen again it will be by a Elvis impersonator .

I watched the movie. "Realism" aside, it was a sports movie that pretended to concern itself with music.

I thought the movie was a complete dumpster fire. So much so that I don’t think I can watch a video with anything to do with the movie. “Drumline” was even worse.

So I actually just watched Greyson's reaction. I enjoyed his take on it. Basically the same as when I watched it. Like Greyson, I could relate to some of it. I've seen and experienced things. Obviously not so over the top, never had a chair thrown at me, but it's not as inaccurate as some critics have argued.

But the movie really isn't about drumming. It's about power and abuse. And why the abused allow themselves to be abused. Asking why is like asking why so many women ended up on Harvey Weinstein's couch. Or how Louie C.K. got away with his lewd acts for so long with so many women. That stuff is more heinous than what Fletcher did in the movie, and that's real life.

I make it a point not to watch reaction videos, or reactions-to-reaction videos, or.....what's next? a video of someone thinking about something?

Greyson did point out a number of things that were realistic but I think he would agree with me. This looks like one of those movies that you really wanted to be better.

I've never seen the movie, but I watched Greyson's video.
To me, ironically, Greyson's playing reminds of the way the drummer in Whiplash plays; seemingly hyper and not relaxed.

Well not a Rusher...as I’m not a fan of Rush, and I haven’t heard Drag, although I’ve heard they are pretty good Rush parody band......

I don’t think I could tolerate the Whiplash movie as I have seen a “musical director” act the way the band director does in the few movie trailer bits I’ve seen. Years ago I was called in to sub a few rehearsals for a “musical“ and she berated everybody, while showing her obvious shortcomings as a conductor, musician, and person. I got through the rehearsal, called the regular drummer and said find another sub....

Saw the movie. Wasn’t crazy about it.
Seemed ripe for humorous jabs though.
Any film that allows the characters to go THAT overboard … well … the jokes are inevitable.
I understand how people wouldn’t want to see it.
I can also understand why people would enjoy it.
Kinda the same feelings stirred up when Michael Myers is revealed in the window.
Not my cup, but many people dig those rushes.

Nobody forced the kid to stay . He probably turned out just as sick in the head as the teacher, maybe worse .

The Last Samurai keeps going where Whiplash ends , as do countless other films , especially those Kung Fu imports from the 60's and early seventies .

Having not seen a lot of Greyson Nekrutman he comes across as an impressive young man who can certainly play drums and in this video he gives a fairly level headed account of the parts in the movie.

Sorry to be the one to break it to some of you but it is a DRAMA MOVIE, not a documentary. Hollywood does as Hollywood does and takes creative license for entertainment and reaction. I've watched it more than once and it's not the best, but certainly not the worst movie I've ever seen.

And for an actor Miles Teller does a pretty decent job of faking some very technical drumming throughout, especially the big F you solo and interpretation of Caravan at the end. Sure Peter Erskine could pick that his hands aren't spot on, but your average movie goer and probably even a fair number of drummers would likely never notice.

Whiplash made a huge impact on me when it came out. I was in music school at the time in a similar situation. No one through chairs at me, but the emotional abuse was similar. Even though it was over the top, this movie really captured the feeling of what I was going through at the time metaphorically, and that’s what movies are about, dramatizations of internal struggles. It really hurt me to read reviews from musicians saying that it was a complete misrepresentation of music school, because for me it wasn’t. It really revealed the privilege of a lot of musicians who’ve gotten a lot luckier with their musical relationships and turned me off from a lot of them.

I liked the critique video. Normally I don't care for them. I'm wondering why GN has a smaller ride cymbal which is odd and I wish he played a little slower with some more swing. Finally, give him some old K's and a old Gretsch kit! Dude is way talented.....
