Before Wipeout, Caravan was the drum solo song of choice.
Has it disappeared entirely ?
I'm guessing some jazz player might still play it.
I haven't played it for decades.

I used to play it with a Jazz Quintet I led a couple years back . It was a very popular song for us . It was fun to play as well .

I played it just a few weeks ago with some young players who are just becoming familiar with it. They’re also just getting comfy with Girl From Ipanema, Wave, etc. So I predict a MASSIVE resurgance. Or not. Lol.

I still play it - and in a duo setting. Ya can't go wrong with an Ellington song (with credit to Juan Tizol.)

Played it last night with my big band. We do the arrangement from the Chicago big band album of several years ago. No extended solos, and I trade the short breaks with our percussionist. It's fun.

15 years ago I played in a jazz trio with a pianist who now plays with the likes of Dave Weckl. He was bored with it, and insisted we do it in 7. Not my greatest performance, but I learned.

Sure, I still play Caravan.

And I still play Sing Sing Sing and Cute, both well known drum features.

It's been a few years since I've played Wipe Out....
