2002's went into production in 1971, year I was born, so we will both be celebrating a milestone next year.... I know 6 months away still but I wonder if they'll do something special? I don't follow Paiste much, but always have liked the sound out front when I hear another drummer using 2002's. Does Paiste get into doing special editions like Zildjian likes to do?

I'm sure they will, I've been a paiste player from day one, started on 602's and 2002's I have everyone I've bought new many many many years ago.

First ... Happy day!

Second ... Man, I sure hope they do something wild and unexpected. I love the idea of celebrating a cymbal line that's been around that long and has made such an impact on our chosen instrument.

I don't currently play 2002 ... I have in the past.

I plan on snagging a full set very very soon, though.
What's even cooler is the Paiste contract Bonzo signed was on my exact birth date, though he didn't start using 2002's until 3 or 4 later according to the list of cymbals

they could change the '2oo2' line to the '2o2o' line
(I always liked their font choices).

They'll probably do something similar to the early 2000s with a run of black label 2002s.

I hope they do, but I'm holding my breath.
I feel they've been slacking the past few years.
I mean they told me the cymbal cleaner was on back order in 2018, or early 19. Still nothing. I did get a few bottles off Ebay when i first heard that

50 years since introduction, but not necessarily 50 years in production. Weren't they kind of out of production between 1986-1993? Although I have heard you could technically still get them during the 1OOO/2OOO/3OOO era.

Actually have to disagree with the 2002 introduced in 70’s, the use of CuSn8 alloy goes back to the 60’s. From my perspective it was more of name introduction with the same alloy.

Here's the Paiste timeline

Kevin, I'm not sure I'm following your reasoning here? Is that like saying all Zildjian B20 cymbals are the same cymbal?
I have a set of Giant Beats, as well as 2002's. Yes, they're made from the same alloy, but are very different in sound/tone, hammering, etc...

No Paiste originally came out under the Ludwig Standard name with the CuSn8 formula from 1965 to 1969, then reemerged in 1971 renamed to 2002 under the black label til 1980. Red label introduced in 1980.

that is absolutely not correct. the dates (and parts of the production history) on that timeline on NF Drums are all screwed up. It was done over ten years with limited materials and a lot of it was simply guess work. I have spoken to the guy who posted it. He did the best he could at the time. Honestly, I wish he would take that down, as too many people refer to it and think it is wholly accurate. It is not.

While not 100% verified here is a much better working theory on Paiste B8

Paiste starts experimenting with B8 in 1963 and first B8 Paistes were the Stambul 65 line in 1965

1967 - Giant Beat line introduced

SUPER is the likely the first Paiste budget line to go from NS12 to B8 sometime in or right before 1970

1971 - 2002 is introduced

1971/2 other lower Paiste lines (Dixie, Stambul, Ludwig Standard, Stanople) go from NS12 to B8
