Would You Buy Kit With Cracked Lacquer?

Say, you saw a kit with cracked lacquer running along bass drum.
Kit is priced 1/3 of price.Everything else is pristine.
Shell itself has no cracks.

Thoughts?

Yes, especially if its actual lacquer which is pretty easy to repair

Absolutely, at 1/3 the price, that's a no brainer. And even though I am super fussy about my gear, I also recognize that they are just tools in a trade.

I passed on a Gretsch New Classic kit in Ocean Sparkle that had a lacquer crack running around the drum. I passed on it, and have regretted it. If it was 1/3 of the price, I might not have passed.

I have since seen several other NC kits with similar lacquer cracks. Makes you wonder about the finishing process for the lacquer. I suppose the drums may have cracked from temperature changes.

This hunk of junk below??.. the guy is asking a price for a great shape kit.. which his is nowhere near

he has a severely cracked finish..... this thing might be worth $100 IMO.

This, exactly. This is why I don’t mind playing cymbals with keyholes, edge dings, etc — if they sound great and cost less, it’s a win-win.

I seriously doubt that finish is nitrocellulose lacquer (which is very easy to repair). However the finish cracks don’t bother me

that's what they went for brand new from what I remember.. LOL not current but when that model came out.

Whaaaa......doesn’t this come from the custom shop where one pays a bunch more to have the instrument(s) look vintage, or at least played out.....
You’d figure it would be 1/3 more...rather than a third of the price....if it’s all cracked up to be in the first place.
